Read moreLearn more about the journey of Sam Brookes, ClickThrough's Analytics Manager, who has grown with the company for over ten years. Learn about her path into the world of Digital Marketing and how ClickThrough has supported her in embodying our core company value of 'always be learning'.
We had the opportunity to sit down with Sam and delve into her time with ClickThrough so far:
How long have you been at ClickThrough?
I've been here for 14 years and six months.
How did you first get into marketing?
After I graduated, I struggled to get a job. Like with most graduates, I was having interviews for graduate-level positions but kept being told that I didn't have enough experience. A friend from university was working at ClickThrough and told me to come and interview for a Paid Executive role - and the rest, as they say, is history.
If you started as a Paid Executive, where did your interest in Data & Analytics come from and how did this become your specialism?
While working in Paid Search, my role became very diverse. To help my clients, I started to adjust and began learning how to add tracking to websites, set up and report on phone call tracking and write and create reports. Following some maternity leave, we noticed a gap in knowledge across departments upon my return and decided we needed to expand and help teams report to clients. This then put me in a position where I could help our internal teams and clients with tracking and reporting.
How much of your analytics role has involved learning new skills and how has ClickThrough helped with this?
From the moment I started working at ClickThrough, I have been learning new skills. I had to learn everything from scratch. Through the years, ClickThrough has helped me to develop the skills necessary to succeed at my job. I've recently undertaken a qualification, and even a few weeks after that, I have been learning further skills in Python and SQL to help improve our reports further.
Why did you choose to take your latest qualification and how will it impact your role?
I was offered the opportunity to improve my Python and Power BI knowledge so that our team's output can expand and create different internal and external reports. I love to learn new things so I jumped at the opportunity to keep expanding my knowledge.
How did you find balancing learning during the qualification alongside your day-to-day role?
Initially, I did find it quite difficult to balance doing the qualification alongside my role as my day-to-day is dependant on tasks that can be set and changed daily or weekly. At first, I only worked three days a week, so to do my workload and the qualification was a challenge. It also started around the same time as I was also working to upgrade our clients to GA4 and migrate our reporting system so it seemed a little intense! Eventually, I moved to a four-day week which did improve the balance of learning and working.
Throughout her 14 years with us, Sam has consistently demonstrated her commitment to learning and growth. Following her recent qualification, she is dedicated to further enhancing her knowledge and skills, embodying our core value of 'always be learning'.
Whether you're interested in learning more about our analytics consultancy, or our company goals and values - or think that a role like Sam's would benefit your career, we're excited to hear from you.
