Google has started to issue business owners using its Google Places with an email warning they have less than three weeks to save their Google Place Listing.
In the email, the Google Places team have advised business owners, "Due to changes in Google Maps, we'd like to inform you that unless you review and confirm the information in your Google Places account, we will no longer be able to keep and show it to Google users after February 21, 2014."
Users have to reverify their listing or otherwise they will be removed from both Google Maps and Google+ Local. The process to update this information is not too complicated however, and can be done in three steps.
Business owners simply have to log on to their Google Places account, review and update their information and then click on submit.
Not all business owners may have received the email, but it is certainly worth checking just in case. The email could easily have found itself hidden away in a spam folder and discovering this after the February 21 deadline would certainly be a cause of frustration.
Google+ Community Manager, Jade Wang, said owners who have not received the email should not be concerned and should just manually go through the process of updating their business information before the February 21 deadline.
Google Places is a handy way to begin SEO for local businesses looking to establish their business' identity and simply involves filling in relevant information. Google then sends a pin to activate the place listing and confirm the listing is genuine. Those who miss the deadline set by Google in a few weeks, may find themselves having to repeat this process.
